Jakai Newton, a four-star recruit in the 247Sports composite rating, committed to Indiana men’s basketball Friday on CBS Sports HQ. Newton, a 6-foot-3-inch combo guard in the 2023 recruiting class, chose Indiana over the University of Georgia and Vanderbilt University.
Newton, who plays for Newton High School in Covington, Georgia, is Indiana’s first recruit in the 2023 class. Rivals.com ranks Newton as the No. 43 player in the 2023 class and 247Sports composite rating has him at No. 67.
He will follow Indiana’s 2022 recruiting class, which is headlined by guard Jalen Hood-Schifino and forward Kaleb Banks, both of whom are ESPN top-100 recruits, as well as three-star guard CJ Gunn.
