Christi J. Bennett, then-66, was arrested July 8 for two counts of criminal recklessness and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, one resulting in bodily injury and one resulting in serious bodily injury. Charges against Bennett have been dismissed after her death, according to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.

Charges against Christi J. Bennett, who hit two protesters with her car after a protest July 6, 2020 on Walnut Street in Bloomington, have been dismissed due to Bennett’s death, according to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.

Law enforcement informed the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office that Bennett had died in Colorado, which led to the dismissal of the charges against her, Monroe County Prosecutor Erika Oliphant said Tuesday.

Bennett, 66 at the time of her arrest, was arrested July 8, 2020 in Scottsburg, Indiana for the offenses. Bennett had been staying in a motel in Scottsburg at the time of her arrest.

The charges against Bennett included two counts of criminal recklessness and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, one resulting in bodily injury and one resulting in serious bodily injury.

Bennett had previously been convicted of stalking with a deadly weapon in Monroe and Morgan counties three times since 2004.
