Pittsburgh guard Xavier Johnson plays offense Jan. 28, 2020, in Durham, North Carolina. Johnson announced Wednesday he will be transferring to IU.

Xavier Johnson announced Wednesday evening that he will be transferring to IU from the University of Pittsburgh.

Johnson, a junior point guard, averaged 14.2 points per game this season with the Panthers. Johnson provides the Hoosiers another option as a scoring guard alongside juniors Rob Phinisee, Parker Stewart and sophomore Armaan Franklin — if he withdraws from the transfer portal.

The former Panther was second in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season averaging 5.7 assists per game.

Johnson became the 47th player in Pitt program history to reach 1,000 points on Jan. 6 against Syracuse University.

Johnson is the first transfer to sign with IU since Mike Woodson was hired as head coach March 28.
