IU senior Tyler Combs finished the first round of the 2020 College Championship finals in last place with $200 Thursday night.
Combs will continue 7:30 p.m. Friday in the second round where each of the contestants will begin with $0. Results from the first and second rounds will be added to determine who will be awarded a $100,000 grand prize.
Combs competed against University of Minnesota sophomore Nibir Sarma and University of Southern California sophomore Xiaoke Ying who finished the round with $22,196 and $800, respectively. Combs finished Double Jeopardy with 10 questions answered correctly in total.
Combs had $5,200 going into Final Jeopardy. After incorrectly answering the clue, “An account of a deposed Duke of Genoa is 1549 ‘History of Italy’ is a presumed source for this play,” with, “ What is Coriolanus?,” his total was reduced by his wager of $5,000, lowering his total to $200. The correct answer was, "What is 'The Tempest?'"
His competitors Sarma and Ying also answered the Final Jeopardy question incorrectly.
