UPDATED: IU confirms identity of student found dead Monday in Read Center

The Clark wing of Read Center is seen Oct. 28. Officials are conducting a death investigation after a 19-year-old was found dead Monday morning.

Updated at 11:50 p.m. Oct. 28

IU spokesperson Chuck Carney has confirmed the identity of the student found dead Monday morning in Read Center to be freshman Jessica Tran. 

Tran was found unresponsive and unable to be revived, Carney said. 

Carney said there is no indication of suicide at this time, and IUPD does not suspect foul play. 

Her parents were notified soon after and have met with the Dean of Students.

The cause of death is still being investigated.

IU Police Department was called at 8:28 a.m. Monday to Clark Wing of Read Center in response to a 19-year-old person’s death, Capt. Craig Munroe said.

Munroe said the cause of death is unknown, but there is no reason to suspect foul play.

Police are still investigating the death.
