BPD arrests 20-year-old man for Sunday morning shooting

 

The Bloomington Police Department arrested 20-year-old Gabriel Alsman in connection to a shooting that left two wounded early Sunday morning at a house on South Grant Street, according to a press release from BPD. 

Police believe there was more than one shooter and are currently investigating. 

According to the release, a 23-year-old man sustained one gunshot wound and an 18-year-old woman sustained two gunshot wounds. 

The victims were transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and are currently in stable condition. 

A BPD officer patrolling the area heard numerous gunshots. The officer then observed hundreds of partygoers fleeing from a nearby party. The officer then heard another burst of gunshots, according to the release.

A witness gave officers a physical description of a shooter that was seen fleeing the area. An arriving officer spotted the suspect running with a handgun. The officer caught the suspect after chasing him on foot,according to the release. 

The firearm possessed by Alsman was previously reported stolen. 

The shooting damaged several buildings and cars. Investigators found numerous spent shell casings throughout the 400 block of South Grant Street and in the nearby alleyway. 

Alsman was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness with a firearm, theft, possession of marijuana and illegal consumption of alcohol. 

Alsman has pending criminal charges including criminal recklessness for shooting a firearm into a building and resisting law enforcement by intentionally fleeing from law enforcement. 

Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting according to the press release.
