Senior Annelie Leitner celebrates after scoring a goal against Miami at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Aug. 19. Leitner was named Big Ten Player of the Week Tuesday.

After scoring back-to-back, game-winning goals against Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount this weekend, redshirt senior forward Annelie Leitner was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.

Friday’s battle with the Pepperdine Waves was tied at 1-1 until Leitner buried the game-winning shot in the 66th minute. Graduate defender Claudia Day and junior midfielder Allison Jorden combined for the assists on the goal off a free kick.

Sunday’s match required a come-from-behind effort by Loyola Marymount, but the Lions could only score one goal on IU after Leitner’s goal. The Hoosiers earned their second 2-1 win of the weekend.

Leitner will look to keep her goal streak alive as IU concludes their non-conference schedule this weekend with home games against Kentucky and Kansas State.
