Then-sophomore infielder Matt Lloyd, now-junior, runs to third base after his teammate, Tony Butler, hit a grounder to left field during the 2017 season. Lloyd was named a second team All-American on Thursday.

On Thursday, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced its All-American selections, with one Hoosier making the cut. Junior utility player Matt Lloyd was named to the publication’s All-American second team.

Lloyd hit .275 with eight home runs this season, driving in 38 runs. He also posted a 4-2 record on the mound with a 1.23 ERA when pitching. He struck out 21 batters in 22 innings, and collected six saves in his role as IU’s closer.

Lloyd was one of eight Hoosiers that received All-Big Ten honors just over a week ago, as he was named to the first team by the conference. A year ago, Lloyd was named first team all-region by American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings.
