Music mends community after Las Vegas attacks

Despite the rain, some of the Bloomington community gathered together Sunday night in solidarity with Las Vegas. Ladies First, a student a cappella group performed at the vigil and the crowd spoke out against hate with music. Read more here.



Freshman trio sparks football win

Monique Mack saw her son Taysir, a freshman wide receiver at IU, score two touchdowns during the first half of Saturday’s win against Charleston Southern, and wanted to congratulate him immediately. So when Taysir went inside at halftime, he found a call from her waiting on his cellphone. Read more here.


Board of Trustees approves construction projects and degrees

The Board of Trustees learned about declining enrollment numbers across campuses in a presentation during Oct. 5 and 6 meetings at IU-Purdue University Indianapolis.

In addition, they approved new construction projects on campus, such as the Metz Carillon relocation and the IU Golf Course renovation, added new degrees for IU-Bloomington and caught up on the Precision Health Initiative. Read more here.


How the Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed connects to IU

In Sept. 1987, songwriter Lou Reed, frontman for the Velvet Underground, visited Professor Glenn Gass' history of rock 'n' roll class. Reed was visiting Heartland rocker John Mellencamp before the charity music festival Farm Aid. Mellencamp talked Reed into visiting Gass' class, where he answered questions from students. Now 30 years later, IU alum Anthony DeCurtis will release the biography "Lou Reed: A Life" on Oct. 10. Thirty years after the Velvet Underground's frontman Lou Reed unexpectedly visited an IU class, IU alumnus Anthony DeCurtis will release a biography of the rocker on Oct. 10 exploring his life through his music. Read more here.
