The No. 15-ranked IU women’s swim and dive team kicked off the NCAA Championships Wednesday night with the 800-meter freestyle relay.
Entering the event, the IU team of senior Gia Dalesandro, juniors Kennedy Goss and Delaney Barnard and freshman Maria Paula Heinemann was seeded No.18.
The Hoosiers dominated their heat and won it by more than four seconds while moving up six spots to finish No. 12 on the night with a time of 6:59.91. The 12th place finish earned the team Honorable Mention All-American honors
The NCAA Championships are being held throughout the weekend in Indianapolis at the IU Natatorium. The IU women will be back in action Thursday morning at 10 a.m. for more swimming events and the 1-meter dive.
