A Bloomington man who died by an apparent suicide was found Wednesday in Leonard Springs Nature Park, a Bloomington park.
A woman who had been walking her dog in Leonard Springs called police at about 2:30 p.m. to report she’d found a body, Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams said. Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department initially responded and then called Bloomington police because the park is in BPD’s jurisdiction.
Police found the deceased 54-year-old man, who appeared to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, near a swampy area about a five- to ten-minute walk down the trail, Kellams said. His car, a tan Toyota, was parked in the parking lot. Inside it was a suicide note.
A representative from the coroner’s office arrived and began notifying the deceased man’s family members, according to the police report. Kellams said an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
