Two men were arrested in a Bloomington home Wednesday night for dealing in heroin and cocaine and possession of an illegal firearm.
Bloomington police officers arrived at a residence on S. Acadia Ct. Wednesday to serve an arrest warrant to Indianapolis resident Albert Jones, 44, for charges of dealing heroin after three controlled heroin buys executed by the Bloomington Police Department narcotics unit.
When searching the residence, officers found a small amount of marijuana and over 20 grams of cocaine.
In total, Jones was arrested for two counts of dealing cocaine and three counts of dealing heroin. BPD Capt. Steve Kellams said he was not sure if the cocaine charges were from additional controlled buys or if a cocaine deal was occurring inside the residence when officers arrived.
The second man arrested was Waymon Upshaw, 40.
Officers recognized Upshaw, who has a particularly violent criminal record and frequently visits Bloomington from his permanent home in East Chicago, Indiana, to deal drugs, Kellams said.
According to court records, Upshaw has four felonies from crimes in Monroe County. At the Acadia Court residence, he was in possession of a 9 mm handgun.
As a “serious violent felon” in the Indiana courts, Upshaw is not allowed to own a gun. He was for the gun violation and dealing cocaine, which was from a prior BPD controlled buy, Kellams said.
