The following is a press release written by Lisa Miller for IU Jacobs Entrepreneurship & Career Development.
The Jacobs School of Music (JSOM) Office of Entrepreneurship and Career Development (OECD) is hosting its first ever Performing Arts Career Fair at Indiana University-Bloomington on October 13 in the Musical Arts Center Lobby. The OECD is inviting employers specializing in performing arts and related disciplines from throughout the Midwest to connect with Jacobs students at this upcoming event. The fair will be open to all IU students who register.
The Jacobs School of Music is home to over 1600 students studying music performance, dance, theatre, musical theatre, audio recording, music industry and business, music theory, and musicology, coming from across the United States and many countries. Students at Jacobs benefit from the intensity and focus of a world-class conservatory combined with the broad academic offerings of a major university.
For over ten years, the OECD has supported students at the Jacobs School of Music as they develop innovative, creative, and successful lives in the performing arts. The Office offers expert career and entrepreneurial guidance through focused workshops, one-on-one coaching, mentorship to student organizations, and collaborations with Jacobs faculty and staff.
With the recent expansion of the JSOM to include Contemporary Dance, Musical Theatre, Theatre, Music Business, Music Creation & Production, and Scoring for Visual Media, the OECD is increasing its support to students through this invitation to regional performing arts employers to connect directly with emerging talent. The focus of this fair will be employers of professionals with skills and experience in performance and applied teaching in music, dance, theatre and related fields.
“While Indiana University has recently emphasized its strong commitment to the performing arts on campus by facilitating the merger of the Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance into the Jacobs School of Music, the Jacobs School is strengthening its support of performing arts students from all disciplines by offering the inaugural Performing Arts Career Fair through our Office of Entrepreneurship and Career Development this fall,” said Abra Bush, David Henry Jacobs Bicentennial Dean. “It is a perfect opportunity for performing arts employers in the region to access a budding talent pool and for our students to take what may be the first step on their professional career path.”
Interested employers can register for the fair at this link. Students interested in participating in the fair can register through Handshake . Any questions about the fair can be directed to Lisa Miller, OECD Career Specialist millerlr@iu.edu.
