IUSA passes budget with majority approval

The IU Student Association’s Congress voted to finalize the group's amended 2014 budget during its Wednesday night meeting.

The proposed budget had been previously modified to reflect the counter-proposal made by the Oversight and Reform Committee last week, suggesting a cut of about $7,500. The proposal was met with both dissenting and approving opinions and was later passed with a majority approval.

About 37 Congress members were in attendance for the meeting. The group formally appointed committee chairs who were nominated last week.

Ty Nocita was formally added to Congress as a representative before being instated as committee chair for Student Relations. He said he had been a “proxy” representative for members in the past and had decided to join Congress as a full-fledged member.

Riley Parr was appointed as Family Student Housing representative. Parr ran for Vice President of Congress as part of the Hoosiers 4 Solutions ticket last year.

Olivia Roy was elected as chair for the Student Life Committee. Drew Roley was appointed as chair of the education committee, and Nishant Mehta was elected as the chair person for the IUSA Oversight and Reform Committee. Each of these candidates, including Nocita, ran unopposed and was elected unanimously by members present.
