DNR to celebrate public lands day

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will offer free admission for military members on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest one-day volunteer effort for public lands, according to a press release from Indiana DNR.

Military members, veterans and anyone in the same vehicle will be able to enter Indiana state parks for free that day by showing a military ID, Veterans Affairs card or other forms of veteran identification.

Volunteers will be able to collect prairie seeds and participate in construction projects, gardening and cleaning trails. They will be also be able to partake in hikes, crafts and pioneer activities.

In addition, Indiana state employees will receive free admission Sept. 29 by showing an employee ID.
