A case of measles has been confirmed in Monroe County.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Department of Health, a person who was not vaccinated became infected with measles, a highly contagious respiratory disease, while overseas.
The person, while infected, was at Indianapolis International Airport Aug. 22.
Those who went to the airport Aug. 22 and experience symptoms of measles, such as rash, fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, should stay home and call their health care provider, according to the release.
Other infected people would start showing symptoms between Aug. 24 and Sept. 12.
Health care providers should consider measles in people experiencing rashes and fevers, especially if the patient is unvaccinated and visited the airport on Aug. 22, or has a history of travel to Texas, international travel or contact with international visitors or symptomatic cases, according to the release.
