End of an era for Monopoly token

Hasbro, maker of the world-famous “Monopoly” board game series, announced the classic franchise will lose one of its standard tokens and gain a new one.

A special Facebook page vote will determine which piece is saved among the dog, thimble, race car, wheelbarrow, iron, battleship, top hat and shoe.

One modernized choice will be selected to join the collection. Fans can choose between a cat, guitar, toy robot, diamond ring or computer on the ballot.

The abandoned piece will be sent “directly to jail” sometime in 2013.
