Police arrest armed robbery suspect

Bloomington police arrested a man Thursday in connection to an armed robbery in early September.

Dominique Burris, 19, was called to the Bloomington Police Department Wednesday for questioning, Detective Sgt. John Kovach said. Burris allegedly assisted two men and transported them from Bloomington to Noblesville, Ind., where they are from, after informing Burris they had robbed a man.

Burris is facing preliminary charges of assisting a criminal, which is a felony. He was booked into Monroe County Jail at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. His bond is set at $905.

The two men Burris reportedly helped skip town were involved in a drug deal before they contacted Burris, Kovach said. The two men, including Devyn Diebold, 18, and an
unknown man, allegedly met the victims near Pete Ellis and Braeside drives on Sept. 5.

Diebold and the reported accomplice entered the victims’ vehicle to exchange cash for 30 grams of marijuana, Kovach said. Diebold and the other suspect, reported as a black male, both held knives to the victims’ throats and demanded the drugs, money and car keys. The victims obeyed, Kovach said. Police are still pursuing the possible second suspect.

Diebold was eventually arrested on an unrelated charge and booked into Hamilton County Jail. Bloomington police have issued an additional arrest warrant regarding the preliminary armed robbery charges, Kovach said.
