Geoff McKim

Monroe County Council At-Large (incumbent)

McKim has served as a county council member at-large since 2008 and has worked as a program manager at Technology Service Corporation in Bloomington since 1997. He was an adjunct lecturer in the School of Library and Information Science from 1995 until 1999.

“The most important job of the county council is to pass the annual county budget. My top priority is to pass a county budget that provides our statutorily mandated services in an efficient and effective manner and reflect our community’s progressive values by strengthening our local economy to improve economic opportunities for all, and enhancing services for families and children.

Specific initiatives include: purchasing a community corrections facility to increase alternatives to incarceration and reduce the jail population, supporting a local culture of entrepreneurship, supporting initiatives to improve the high school graduation rate and encourage transition to higher education, supporting local nonprofit social services, building out the county’s alternative transportation infrastructure and connecting it to Bloomington’s greenways network, building sidewalks to increase pedestrian safety, incentivizing the redevelopment of existing brownfields above new greenfield development, assuring that our waterways remain drinkable and swimmable through a comprehensive stormwater management program, expanding the convention center in ways that enhance the natural desirability of Bloomington as a visitor destination, and enhance economic opportunities for all.”
