Due to higher enrollment rates and the increasing attendance of IU commencement ceremonies, degree candidates in the schools of Informatics and Computing, Journalism and Optometry will attend the morning spring 2013 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony instead of the afternoon.
Although the time has changed for candidates in each of the three school, the date will remain the same.
This is a permanent change in response to the size of crowds in Assembly Hall during these ceremonies.
Only degree candidates in those three schools will be affected.
IU President Michael McRobbie, Provost and Executive Vice President Lauren Robel and school deans Robert Schnabel, Michael Evans and Joseph Bonanno were involved in the implementation of this change.
The afternoon session will now solely be for College of Arts and Sciences
graduates.
The Kelley School of Business, Jacobs School of Music and the schools of Education, Nursing, Public and Environmental Affairs, Public Health and Social Work will also be in the morning commencement.
“We believe this rearrangement will forestall a larger and more challenging development: the addition of a third undergraduate session,” IU Managing Director of Ceremonies Jennifer Rowland said in an email.
