Gosport, Ind. man arrested for arson

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Gosport, Ind., man for arson Monday after he allegedly set fire to the front door of a man’s residence with an accelerant.

William Haltom, 34, is being charged with a Class B felony for allegedly starting the fire at a residence on the 4600 block of West Woodard Road, according to a press release by Chief Deputy Michael Pershing.

Pershing said the victim was sleeping in his home when he heard a loud noise, soon discovering his front door was on fire.

After extinguishing the blaze, the homeowner told authorities that he observed Haltom standing in his yard, according to Pershing.

Haltom was arrested and incarcerated for arson after deputies and detectives finished their investigation and determined that he had used an accelerant to fuel the fire.
