Local record label Jagjaguwar benefits from Grammy wins

Bon Iver, led by musician and vocalist Justin Vernon, landed two Grammys on Sunday night.

Jagjaguwar is a Bloomington-based independent record label that signed Vernon in 2007 after he released his first self-produced album.

“Justin handled his winnings with grace, and we are so incredibly proud of him and all the Bon Iver family,” a Jagjaguwar blogger posted on the label’s web site Tuesday. “It’s been one hell of a year for the group, and we’re only in February. Guess you could saw we’re all excited for the future.”

In his acceptance speech, Vernon thanked Jagjaguwar co-owners Chris and Ben Swanson.

Bon Iver will be playing at Coachella, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Sasquatch this summer, performances that are likely to boost record sales for the band and the label.

Grammy for best new artist
Although Bon Iver's first independent album, "For Emma, Forever Ago," was released in 2007, Vernon did not receive exposure to the masses until the second, self-titled album was released June 21, 2011.
