Men’s golf finishes season strong at Isleworth

Result:
The Hoosiers capped off their final event of the season with a fourth-place finish at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.

The Action:
The team posted a three-over-par 291 in the final round, the second-lowest score among the 15-team field, en route to its 888 tournament total.

Senior Co-Captain Chase Wright led the Hoosiers with a two-under-par 70 in the final round, finishing tied for 10th. Tallying three birdies during the final day, Wright dropped seven strokes from the second round, when he posted a five-over-par 77. This was Wright’s fourth top-10 finish of the season.

Continuing to hold his own this season, sophomore David Mills was short of Wright by one stroke, finishing tied for 16th at 221. Mills’ scores went up and down throughout the three-day tournament, as he carded 72-77-72. He will enter the spring season with four top-25 finishes under his belt.

Rounding out the squad was junior Corey Ziedonis, who tied for 28th; junior Brant Peaper, tying for 32nd; and senior Co-Captain David Erdy, tying for 56th.

Quote of Note:
“It’s always gratifying to come down and play in a tournament like this and beat some of the top teams in the country like Stanford, Alabama and Oklahoma State, especially when we still feel like we have something else to offer them,” IU Coach Mike Mayer said.

Notable Number: Four. The men’s golf team made top-five finishes at four out of five of their fall events, as well as one win at the Firestone Invitational.

Up Next: IU will begin its spring season in February at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Bradenton, Fla.
