President: Michael McRobbie

Role
McRobbie is head of IU’s eight campuses. Since his inauguration, McRobbie has aided in renovating residence halls on campuses, increasing graduation rates, building international relationships and recruiting minority students, among several other projects and programs.
Former Positions
IU’s vice president for information technology in 1997, vice president for research in 2003, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at IU Bloomington in 2006
Honors/Achievements
McRobbie co-founded the Asian Pacific Advanced Network , a specialized computer network geared toward researchers and educators in the Asia-Pacific region. He was also appointed as an Officer in the General Division in the Order of Australia and elected as an honorary member of the Australian Academy of Humanities.
Fun Fact
McRobbie is a native of Australia, where he earned both a bachelor’s degree from the University of Queensland and a doctoral degree from Australian National University. He became a United States citizen in October 2010.
First lady: Laurie Burns McRobbie

Role
As the 18th first lady, Burns McRobbie acts as an ambassador for IU, traveling around the state and promoting the University and her husband’s goals and initiatives.
Former Positions
Graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in history, co-chairwoman of University of Michigan’s Commission for Women in the 1980s and 1990s, member of the President’s Advisory Commission on Women’s Issues at the University of Michigan
Honors/Achievements
Burns McRobbie is the Secretary of the Jacobs School of Music’s board of Society of Friends and Music and chairwoman of the Middle Way House’s New Wings Community Partnership.
She has an adjunct faculty position in IU’s School of Informatics and Computing. Burns McRobbie is also the founder of the Women’s Philanthropy Council at the Indiana University Foundation.
Fun Fact
Burns McRobbie and McRobbie both have three children from their first marriages. McRobbie proposed to his wife in Venice, Italy.
Provost and Executive Vice President: Karen Hanson

Role
As the chief academic officer for IU, Hanson oversees academic and budgetary policy.
She is responsible for securing funding for research, recruiting faculty, managing academic programs and policies and accessing the improvements of students.
Former Positions
Dean of the Hutton Honors College from 2002 to 2007, chairwoman of the Department of Philosophy from 1997 to 2002, chairwoman of the Board of the American Philosophical Association in 2004
Honors/Achievements
Hanson has been awarded several teaching awards, as well as a Lilly fellowship and has published articles and essays in the areas of philosophy, ethics, and aesthetics .
Fun Fact
Hanson attended both the University of Minnesota and Harvard University for her B.A. in mathematics and philosophy and Ph.D. in philosophy.
