Local gang members rob Varsity Villas apartment

FROM IDS REPORTS

A Villas resident was robbed by members of a local gang early Wednesday.

Dominique Irby, 19, Morris Hanson, 20, and Darius Rice, 18, were arrested for robbing an apartment after the 20-year-old resident let them in so Irby could use the bathroom, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada said.

Once inside, the suspects allegedly stole a computer, computer hardware and other electronics from the residence. When the resident tried to stop them, they beat him up. They fled in a silver Dodge Neon.

Police pulled the car over a short time later near 17th and Maple streets and conducted a high-risk stop. They found the equipment and arrested the three for robbery and gang involvement.

The three were known to police and now had gang tattoos signifying they were members of the SBA gang.

Rachel Gross, 20, was driving the car and was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of stolen property and assisting a criminal. She had become involved in the crime after the robbery, Canada said.
