Young ousts incumbent Hill from House

Election Night: Todd Young

Republican candidate Todd Young, 38, ousted Democrat incumbent Baron Hill from his seat in the United States House of Representatives.

Young, a marine veteran, served as part-time deputy prosecutor of Orange County and earned his JD from IU in 2006. In 1991, Young received an appointment from the Secretary of the Navy to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

In 1995, he graduated cum laude, earning a BS degree in political science and accepted a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged in 2000, Young eventually served as a delegate to the Indiana Republican State Convention and as a vice precinct committeeman.

Baron Hill represented Indiana’s 9th District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999-2005 before he was defeated by Republican Mike Sodrel in the 2004 election. Hill regained his congressional seat in both the 2006 and 2008 elections.

Young will join recent U.S. Senate elect Dan Coats(R) in the 112th Congress beginning January 2011.
