Hoosier National Forest officials have lifted fire ban restrictions, according to a Hoosier National Forest press release.
Although the effects of the rain deficit are expected to continue through next year, recent showers and cooler weather are responsible for the fire ban lift.
According to the release, “Forest visitors are cautioned that even though restrictions are lifted, dry and windy conditions can dry out the smaller, fine fuels, such as grass and leaves and quickly return us to the heightened fire danger.”
In order to prevent avoidable risks, never leave a campfire unattended, keep flammable materials away from the heat source and do not light a fire during prolonged days without rain.
“Forest visitors and residents in the national forest area should continue to check with local, county or state authorities for restrictions outside of the National Forest,” according to the release.
