Joe Qualters, captain of the Bloomington Police Department, talks about his experiences in public security Tuesday as part of the Student Alumni Association and Career Development Center’s ongoing series Networking Night at the DeVault Alumni Center.
Tuesday’s discussion was titled “Politics, Social Service, and Law” and featured six alumni panelists, including Qualters.
The police captain discussed being successful in government law, which includes being an active listener, dealing with conflict and accurately spotting problems. He also discussed the difficulty of balancing work and life and that one needs to learn how to leave work at work and know when to switch off.
Finally, Qualters discussed the importance of balancing and nourishing family and relationships on top of work, because family is who will be with you after you retire.
