In session Tuesday, IU Student Association Congress voted to pass a bill allocating funds for a mulch pathway near the intersection of 17th Street and Jordan Avenue.
The area, Vice President of Congress Jen Peterson said, was labeled by the University as one of several dangerous pedestrian areas on campus, and IUSA Congress hopes the new pathway will help reduce that danger.
The mulch pathway will help direct traffic in the area where no sidewalk currently exists, Peterson said. Plans have not yet been made by IUSA for a street crosswalk in the area.
The path will cost about $350.
IUSA Congress also heard and tabled a second resolution, which was to allocate funds for a case competition related to the IU College of Arts and Sciences’ Themester 2010 “sustain•ability: Thriving on a Small Planet.”
Peterson said Congress wants to hear more during its next meeting about how the competition would be marketed and judged, before it approves $1,500 for prize money.
