City suspends boat rentals because of low water

Griffy Lake

Griffy Lake boat rentals are temporarily suspended because of low water levels in some parts of the lake.

Park visitors will not be able to rent canoes, rowboats or kayaks until water levels rise to the normal amount, according to a City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department press release.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis issued a red flag warning for Monroe County on Monday, which indicated an increased fire potential because of dry vegetation and low humidity.

Bloomington normally receives an average of about four inches of rain during July and August, according to the Midwestern Regional Climate Center.

Other activities will be available during the regular operating hours — from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until the end of September.
