Minnesota handles IU, 81-58

Entering Saturday with a seven-game losing streak, yet feeling confident after a loss against Michigan State on Tuesday, the IU men's basketball team was hoping to get back on the winning side of things at Minnesota.

Shooting 32 percent from the field while allowing 56 percent, though, was not the way to do it.

The Hoosiers were led by senior guard Devan Dumes' 20 points, and sophomore guard Verdell Jones and junior guard Jeremiah Rivers each chipped in 10. Past that, IU was thin on the scoring front. Freshman forward Christian Watford, the team's second-leading scorer on the season, had only 3 points, and freshman guard Jordan Hulls added 6.

Minnesota guard Lawrence Westbrook cloned Dumes' performance with 20 points of his own, while forward Damian Johnson led the Gophers' all-around charge with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Minnesota was hot from deep, shooting 10-14 from 3-point land. Conversely, IU shot 6-21 from beyond the arc.

The Hoosiers (9-17, 3-11) return home Thursday to take on the Wisconsin Badgers (19-7, 9-5), who thrashed IU, 83-55, one week ago in Madison, Wis.
