INDIANAPOLIS – The lawyer who defended the man convicted in the 2000
slaying of 19-year-old IU student Jill Behrman faces possible
disciplinary action related to the case.
The state Disciplinary Commission alleges that Indianapolis attorney
Patrick Baker improperly solicited John Myers as a client during a jail
visit.
Although Baker did not charge a fee, the allegation is that
Baker improperly asked Myers’ family to pay copying and binding costs
for an appellate brief when they legally could be charged to the
government.
A court spokesman said a hearing on the complaint against Baker had
been set for this month but is being rescheduled. Neither Baker nor his
attorney Jim Voyles returned phone calls seeking comments.
