Indiana University Bloomington Police Chief Michael Hanson is retiring after spending 39 years serving the campus.
IU President Michael McRobbie said Hanson’s length of service shows his loyalty and devotion to IU.
Hanson spent the past 18 years of his service as deputy chief and chief.
IU Vice President for Planning and Policy John Applegate said the IUB police department is smaller than other departments on campuses of the same size, but has been successful with Hanson’s guidance.
To ensure effective operations, an interim chief and deputy chief have been appointed.
Administrative Captain Jerry Minger will be the interim chief of police and Operations Captain Keith Cash will be interim deputy chief as the campus begins a broad search for a new chief.
