INDIANAPOLIS — A former executive director of the state Department of Commerce has announced that he'll run for Indiana secretary of state next year.
Attorney Tom McKenna of Carmel on Tuesday started a three-day series of appearances across the state to kickoff his campaign for the Democratic nomination for the post.
McKenna was the executive director of the state Department of Commerce for five years under then-Lt. Gov. Joe Kernan. He later was a deputy chief of staff when Kernan became governor.
Also seeking the Democratic nomination is Vop Osili, a founding partner of an Indianapolis architectural firm.
Republican Fishers councilman Charlie White also has said he'll run for the office.
Current Republican Secretary of State Todd Rokita can't seek a third term because of term limits.
