The Bloomington Police Department will have extra officers on patrol until Nov. 29 to focus on impaired drivers and seat belt and child restraint violations, according to a BPD press release.
BPD is urging drivers to be safe. AAA’s annual Thanksgiving travel survey states that more than 38 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles this holiday – one of the heaviest travel times of the year.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute issued BPD a grant to cover the costs of extra officers on patrol. Officers from the Indiana State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Ellettsville Police Department will also have extra officers on patrol, according the press release.
