Organizers said the 10th annual Jill Behrman 5K Run/ Walk raised an estimated $17,000.
Saturday's race is in memory of a student who was killed in May 2000. She disappeared while riding her bike before she went to work.
There were 1,250 registered participants, Greary said, and half of the money will go to the Jill Behrman Emerging Leader Scholarship and half to Jill’s House, said Chris Geary, race coordinator and director of research and programming at Recreational Sports in an e-mail.
Jill's House provides temporary housing for out-of-town people receiving treatment at the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute in Bloomington. The scholarship honors selected student leaders who have worked for Recreational Sports for at least a year.
