Internet connectivity on the IU-Bloomington campus was interrupted Tuesday after the “core router” and backup systems both failed. Many departments lost connectivity at about 2:30 p.m., and some connectivity was restored as of 5 p.m.
“It may be an up-and-down situation for a while,” said Dennis Cromwell, associate vice president for enterprise infrastructure. “It affects the Bloomington campus connectivity, and it relates both to the core router, and it’s backup started experiencing big problems.”
Cromwell said network administrators were working on fixing “symptoms” of the problem, but had not yet been able to locate the primary problem with the routers.
The outages did not affect users accessing IU systems from off-campus. Services like OnCourse and OneStart were not interrupted, and other IU campuses around the state were unaffected.
