Jeff Zaslow, Wall Street Journal columnist and co-author of the best-selling book “The Last Lecture,” will speak at 7 p.m. today in the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
Zaslow will discuss his work with Randy Pausch, the professor whose last talk at Carnegie Mellon University raised worldwide public attention. Pausch co-authored a book about how he celebrated life before dying from pancreatic cancer. It was named a No. 1 New York Times Bestseller and is now produced in 45 different languages.
Zaslow will also talk about his life as a journalist and how to find powerful stories.
“I’m going to tell the fun of journalism and how to share a story that’s moving and touches people,” Zaslow said. “‘The Last Lecture’ is a great example of that. It was a story that touches people. It’s a powerful thing, and it’s an honor for me to talk about it.”
Zaslow tells these same kinds of stories in his column, “Moving on,” which focuses on life transitions. He writes about anything from finding a spouse to losing a job, from a child’s first crush to a dying person’s final wishes.
“All of us have a story inside of us,” Zaslow said. “Sharing these stories reminds us what’s important and meaningful in life.”
Director of Communications for the School of Journalism, Beth Moellers, helped select Zaslow for the series.
“He has a personal storytelling style, a style students can learn and appreciate,” she said.
He is currently co-authoring his newest book, “The Highest Duty,” which is scheduled to be released this fall.
