A small fire caused damage to an apartment Monday night after residents left their stove on during a power outage caused by storms on Sunday.
Residents in the 1600 block of South Dorchester Street left items on an open stove, said Roger Kerr, chief of the Bloomington Fire Department.
Kerr said the power went out on Sunday and the apartment residents forgot to turn off the electric stove and remove the items from it. When the power returned to the apartment complex on Monday, the items began to burn on the stove, Kerr said.
The residents were not home during the time of the fire. A neighbor placed the call to the fire department at 8:40 p.m.
There were no injuries, and the only damage was fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the apartment, Kerr said.
