Bloomington will be awash with color this coming Friday.
The Bloomington Watercolor Society is having the opening reception for its annual membership show 5 p.m. Friday at Gallery North.
“There is so much talent in this town,” said Jeanne Dutton, president of the Bloomington Watercolor Society.
More than 25 local and regional artists have their work on display at Gallery North for the Bloomington Watercolor Society Membership Show. Dutton said she is proud of every piece.
“There is a wide array of styles in watercolor painting,” she said.
Dutton said traditional, experimental and botanical watercolor are some of the most popular styles.
Yupo watercolor, an art created on synthetic paper, is what Dutton plans to display.
Returning artist and one of the founders of the organization, Jacki Frey is showing her work in the show.
“(I like) the fact that we are putting our work up for the community to appreciate and enjoy,” Frey said.
Jeanne Iler, another founder, said this is the fourth year the exhibit has been up. She and six other women began the organization to encourage one another as artists and provide education in watercolor painting. Iler plans to display a painting of Ronda, Spain, made with watercolor and collage.
Dutton said Bloomington Watercolor Society membership has tripled over the past two years, with 60 members registered this year.
“We would really like to encourage more students to become involved, though,” Dutton said.
The exhibit will be on display at Gallery North, 116 W. Sixth St., until July 25.
