A letter from Dean of Students Richard McKaig

“Welcome to the class of 2012”

Pete Stuttgen

As you begin the fall semester, you are joining an exciting student community filled with options and opportunities. At times you will be given more information about programs, services and policies than you will ever read, and then you will have questions for which no answers seem available. You will be surrounded by a community of students new to the campus and at the same time might wonder who your new friends will be. You will have more freedom than you have likely experienced to date but you will also find rules, norms and expectations that are a part of the college experience. These contradictions are for you to resolve as you learn to make sense about your new life as a college student.

We are happy to have you on campus. Find a way to get involved. Find a way to make IU your home. Find a way to make a difference at IU.

Staff, faculty and your fellow students are full of advice and happy to help if you will reach out across cyberspace, across the classroom, across the sports field or the dining hall. I am located in Franklin Hall, on e-mail at mckaig@indiana.edu and on Facebook. Let me know how I can help you make the most of your IU experience.

Best regards,
Richard N. McKaig
Vice Provost for Student Affairs
and Dean of Students
