So the United Nations wants to investigate Israel's alleged human rights violations during the recent conflict in Lebanon? I suppose I can understand that.\nAfter all, it was Israel that crossed the border and captured soldiers. It was Israel that went into civilian areas and hid behind innocent people as it launched rockets at its enemies. It was Israel that sent suicide bombers into neighboring countries.\nWait. Israel did not do those things. Hezbollah did.\nHezbollah guerrillas bear a great deal of responsibility for the devastation in Lebanon for a couple of reasons.\nFirst, they were the ones who captured Israeli soldiers. This abduction is bad enough. But the fact that Hezbollah crossed a recognized border makes it an act of war. Did they honestly believe Israel was just going to sit by while terrorists were capturing its soldiers?\nSecond, Hezbollah was the group that went into civilian areas. Israel has been repeatedly criticized for bombing civilian areas during this conflict, but that is Hezbollah's fault. If Hezbollah guerillas had any concept of human life, they would not have hidden in civilian areas. However, since they did, the number of innocent people hurt in this conflict skyrocketed.\nBut as much blame as Hezbollah should get for the devastation in this conflict, it is not the only organization at fault. The group of "do-nothing" bureaucrats in New York also shares blame.\nYes, I am talking about the United Nations.\nIf one researches the relationship between the United Nations and Israel on Google, a disturbing picture emerges.\nThe U.N.'s humanitarian chief Jan Egeland criticized Israel's bombing of Lebanon as "immoral." Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced a commission to investigate human rights abuses by Israel.\nAs one looks at these snide comments and unfair, one-sided investigations, one cannot help but see what a crackerjack job these U.N. officials are doing. Under the leadership of Annan and Egeland, terrorist groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaida and others have grown around the world like cancerous tumors.\nWhen countries like the United States and Israel take a stand against these killers, they get nothing but criticism and investigations from incompetent U.N. bureaucrats.\nI will concede that it would be nice if we could all just sit down and talk out our differences. However, murderers like Osama bin Laden, Hassan Nasrallah, Ayman al-Zawahiri and others will never negotiate. They will keep coming until either they are dead or we are.\nRegarding this particular conflict, Israel probably could have done some things differently, and yes, innocent people died.\nHowever, the blood of the innocent is on the hands of Hezbollah guerrillas. They are the ones who goaded Israel to fight by kidnapping its soldiers. They are the ones who caused civilian deaths by hiding behind innocent men, women and children. They are the ones guilty of serious miscalculations and human rights abuses.\nThe only miscalculation Israel made is trusting the international community and not finishing Hezbollah off itself.
