The rise of the independents

1984\nCutters, perhaps the most \nfamous independent team in the race's history, wins the men's Little 500 in its first appearance.\n1987\nPosers, Cutters and Joint Venture -- three independent teams -- all place in the top 10 of the men's race.\n1988\nNotorious and Stonies compete in first women's Little 500 race and place in the top 10, placing fifth and eighth respectively. Cutters win its third men's Little 500 with Americana and Cinzano also placing in the top 10.\n1989\nBeyond Control and Team Spirit place first and second respectively in the women's race. Cinzano and Cutters finish one and two in the men's race.\n1990\nTeam Spirit turns the tables on Beyond Control and edges them out for the women's Little 500 title. Le Pas, Landsharks and Revolution join them in the top 10.\n1992\nLandsharks wins the women's Little 500.\n2001\nRoadrunners win women's Little 500.\n2002\nThe Corleones, Gafombi and Dodds House finish 1-2-3 in the men's Little 500 race. The cutters and Team Major Taylor also finish in the top 10.\n2004\nCutters win their seventh men's Little 500 championship.
