With the new semester come new, technologically advanced services at the IU libraries.\nThese services are meant not only to help the libraries enter the future, but also to make the lives of faculty members and students just a little easier.\nPatricia A. Steele, the Ruth Lilly interim dean of University libraries, said she's thinking about the library of the future.\n"Traditional missions (of libraries) have been to build collections to make them accessible and to preserve them," she said. "Now (the mission) is to purchase but to build digital content."\nAnd building digital content is exactly what the library is doing. The new services, which are already in place, include on-demand digital streaming of documentaries, free delivery of print journal articles directly to personal desktops, e-mail notices or RSS feeds of new titles added to the collection and extended loan periods of \npopular videos.\n
