Why do we care about these people?

Tom Cruise is engaged to someone almost half his age? Angelina Jolie broke up the marriage between Brad Pitt and America's favorite "Friend," Jennifer Aniston? Bennifer Strikes Back? Lindsay Lohan is anorexic? Paula Abdul slept with a contestant?\nIf you have lived in a cave and don't know what I am talking about, then be thankful because apparently the celebrity news has not invaded your world. Yes, celebrity news is taking over the world -- one person at a time. I will admit that I do enjoy stories about Leonardo DiCaprio being hit with a wine bottle at a party and it makes for something good to wake up to. But, let's be real, that is not considered news. It is not important, nor should the American public find themselves overly concerned. I do sympathize because getting hit in the face is not fabulous, but CNN does not need to share that information with me at the top of every hour.\nIt's not possible to comprehend why celebrity news is everywhere we look and what makes the population fascinated with it. I was there for the tears when Tom and Nicole broke up but honestly, when we give single words to describe \ncouples (Bennifer, Brangelina, Tomkat and this one sort of counts: Bennifer: Part Deux), there is something wrong with our world. Encoded in those words are the lives of Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Jennifer Garner. I frequently ask myself, and I feel you should too, "Who cares?!" \nI don't care because I know there are more important things going on in the world; yes, the whole Senate and John Bolton thing is getting old and yes, I think we are still fighting that war in Iraq. But the garbage that "Entertainment Tonight" plants in our news is just a way for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to be proud of the money they helped rake in for their new movies.\nSince when do celebrity lives even matter? Are we that bored with our own lives that we must invade the lives of famous people through cameras, paparazzi and constant fan clubs? Are we that fascinated with those who live "better" lives than us? And do we really believe that celebrity marriages are about love?\nCelebrity lives don't matter. Let's live our lives and ignore the actions of Paris Hilton (who is famous for what? A porno and having money?). Anyone who wants to put their life out in the open like some celebrities are probably not good people with honest values. How much time did Nick and Jessica have after their marriage before the cameras started rolling? None. How bizarre do you think their marriage is?\nRealize this: J. Lo is a huge diva and probably super mean. Lindsay Lohan needs to eat a Big Mac, ASAP. Tom Cruise needs to realize that if he stayed in school, his graduation day would have been the day fiancé Katie Holmes was being born. You also should know that your life is better than some 20 million dollar movie star who you will never meet. Your life is awesome and Ben Affleck would rather make too much money doing bad movies than to save the whales.
