The Roots perform Little 500 weekend\nThe band The Roots will perform at IU during this year's Little 500, the Union Board announced Monday. Tickets for the event will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday. The concert will take place April 14 at the IU Auditorium. For more information see Wednesday's Indiana Daily Student.

New director named to Alumni Association\nMark Skirvin is familiar with the IU Alumni Association. Since 2000, Skirvin was working with the IUAA as the director of alumni chapters. Prior to that he was the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at IU-Purdue University Indianapolis. Skirvin, who is a Bloomington native and received two degrees from IU, will concentrate all of his attention on the various chapters.\n"This new position will provide us with an opportunity to enhance staff service and IU Alumni Association programs and services to our chapters," Ken Beckley, IUAA president and CEO, said in a statement. \nSkirvin is the first person to serve in this position because it has just been created.

Conference explains how Europeans view U.S.\nLater this week, 10 scholars in the fields of political science, history, philosophy, comparative literature and religion will come to Bloomington to discuss the various ways America is viewed by Europe. The conference will kick off Friday and end Sunday. \n"To many Europeans, America is still an unknown territory. They rely on myths and preconceptions of American society and politics," said Aurelian Craiutu, assistant professor of political science, in a statement. \nCraiutu organized the event along with Jeffrey Isaac, chair of the Department of Political Science.\nCraiutu will begin the conference at 9 a.m. Friday in the Stateroom East of the Indiana Memorial Union.
