A hit-and-run driver is in custody after causing a five-car accident at 10th Street and 45/46 Bypass May 6.\nAmy Gooldy, 33, turned herself in at the Monroe County Jail Saturday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. Gooldy is charged with multiple offenses including operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of the accident and driving with a suspended license. \nIU Police Department officer Jerry West was the first on the scene after the driver in question struck a line of stopped vehicles at a red light. According to an IUPD press release, a bystander quickly informed West that a car that caused the domino effect of rear-end collisions was exiting the scene.\nIUPD Lt. Jerry Minger said Gooldy was driving a red 1989 Pontiac Bonneville, attempting to flee the accident scene by driving on the grass. \nSirens blaring, West pursued Gooldy eastbound on 10th until she collided with another line of stopped cars on the corner of 10th and Pete Ellis Drive. The second accident involved four vehicles. \nPolice said Gooldy had cocaine, opiates and alcohol in her system and sat trapped in her vehicle with the engine that ignited on collision. According to the press release, West cut Gooldy's seatbelt to free her from the burning vehicle while another assisting officer put out the fire under the hood.\nGooldy was taken by ambulance to Bloomington Hospital along with two others involved in Gooldy's second accident of the night. She was treated for a fractured right ankle. Gooldy remained in the hospital until she fully recovered.\nIUPD recently released a warrant for her arrest after a blood test matched Gooldy with the first accident.\nGooldy, who was involved in an earlier DUI incident, now remains in custody with a $50,000 bail.
