4 IU students featured in Playboy's 'Girls of the Big Ten' issue

Stephanie Urban was a senior last April when she got the news that a crew of Playboy photographers was in town, looking for some willing coeds for their pictorial featuring the "Girls of the Big Ten."\nAt the time she said she applied for the shoot because she wanted a job with them.\n"I'm moving to L.A., so I was just trying to see if I could slip Playboy my resume," Urban said. "They're a reputable company."\nBut what started as a simple job opportunity turned into a photo shoot with Playboy.\n"I never intended to take anything off," Urban said. "They said to take my top off, and I was like 'No.' They said, 'Well, do you want to do this or not?' I said I'd consider it if I could be one of the girls selected, and they said, 'You'd definitely be selected' if you did it."\nUrban didn't reveal anything at the interview, and she said she thought her chances were slim. But Playboy kept calling her for return visits and eventually selected Urban to be featured fully clothed in the October issue, which is now available on newsstands.\n"It was fun, they did my makeup and my hair," she said. "(And) I got paid."\nAs soon as the magazine hit the stands, Urban said she and her friends went out to buy the issue and check out the photos. For Urban, it was her first time buying a Playboy. Even Urban's parents made sure to look through the photo spread.\n"(My parents) love it," she said. "My mom thinks it's great."\nAnother student, who wished to remain anonymous, said she made the decision to pose for the issue because it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And while she said the money was good, she has received mixed reviews from her friends.\n"A lot of my girlfriends have been really supportive," she said. "They keep saying, 'I wish I had the guts to do that.' But my boyfriend wasn't too excited."\nThe four girls selected from IU for the pictorial were first interviewed by Playboy photographers who arrived at Bloomington. In order to qualify for the photo shoot, the girls had to be at least 18 years old and registered as a full or part-time student. \nDean of Students Richard McKaig said the University has heard complaints about Playboy featuring IU students in the past, but has never taken any action.\n"As long as there are no University symbols or insignias and no photographs were taken on campus, then the University does not take any action regarding it," he said.\nUrban said all of the photographs were taken off-campus at private homes. \nAlthough Urban said she has no regrets about the photo shoot, she said Playboy would have to throw a pretty appealing offer on the table if they want her to take her clothes off.\n"I would not consider doing Playboy again unless they put me on the cover," she said. "I'd do it clothed as many times as they want me ... anything else, I'd have to be featured."
