Blending campus isn't the goal

IU Athletics Director Mike McNeely recently laid out his goals to go along with a $40 million project to upgrade the athletic facilities.\n"One, how can we better integrate this part of campus with the main part of campus?" McNeely said. "The second is how can we better create a synergy with the program here?"\n Unfortunately, that's a little bit off. The goals actually are: One, how can we make more money? The second is how can we make more money?\n Cut to the chase, making money is the goal, and I don't have a problem at all with McNeely trying to get more income, but don't lie to the public.\n Blending the facilities with the rest of campus won't happen simply because there's no reason for students to venture up there unless they're moving their car, going to a game or walking to the Varsity Villas for a party.\nInstead of blending the facilities with campus, what will happen is that the student athletic center will separate the athletes and the non-athletes even more.\nSo let's stick to the truth. Making money for the University and the Athletic Department is priority number one, not blending the fields in with campus.
