Two students killed in fall from window

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Two male college students were killed early this morning after tumbling from a third-story dorm window at the University of Kentucky while wrestling, according to school spokeswoman Mary Margaret Colliver.\nA 19-year-old UK freshman was pronounced dead at the scene and a Western Kentucky University student, who was visiting his brother at Kirwin Tower, died later at the University of Kentucky Hospital.\n"The two males were apparently wrestling in an open area of the third floor of the dormitory," Colliver said. "They smacked against a plate glass window, the window gave out and the two fell three stories to the ground."\nThe coroner's office has not released the identities of the students, but was expected to this afternoon.\n"We are profoundly saddened by this shocking incident. Our hearts go out to the families as well as our students," said university president Lee Todd.\nThe university president and his wife, Patsy, were on the scene 30 minutes after the 2:30 a.m. incident to comfort witnesses.\n"As a parent, you dread that phone call at 2:30 in the morning like I got," Todd said. "Your heart just goes out to those two families."\nThe school was trying to decide whether to hold a memorial service, Colliver said. Many students have left or will be leaving the campus after this week following classroom finals, she noted.\nThe deaths are being investigated by university and Lexington police.
